Story
In February, my partner had a seizure. After lots of tests, we found out it was caused by something called an arteriovenous malformation (AVM).
An AVM is a tangle of blood vessels in the brain that aren’t connected the right way. This causes blood to flow differently, which can change the pressure in the brain. They can lead to seizures, headaches, or even bleeding in the brain.
AVMs are extremely rare, occurring in only 1% of people. Because of this, the whole journey since diagnosis has been extremely stressful. Being unable to find information readily available to help us through this time has only added to the stress.
We want to raise awareness about this condition and support others going through the same thing. I’m running the Gold Coast Marathon to help shine a light on AVMs and inspire others to learn more. Your donation can help with treatment, research, and spreading the word so more people understand what AVMs are.
Thank you so much for your support.
